Heather Starr Fiedler is a transplant from Western New York, but has a love of all things Pittsburgh. “The Bits” are her boys, Matthew and Ben. Whenever Heather types “the boys” on her iPhone, autocorrect changes it to “the bits”. So that became her personal nickname for them.
As the founder and general manager of PittsburghMom.com , Heather has spent the past eight years sharing her love of the family-friendly options Pittsburgh has to offer.
In her “real job”, Heather is an associate professor of multimedia at Point Park University . She specializes in new and emerging media technology, social media and graphic design. In addition, Heather is the director of Outreach for the School of Communication and the Director of Wood Street Communications , an initiative that partners nonprofits with students in media classes to produce high quality pro bono work.
Outside of Point Park, Heather is the co-founder of Play It Forward Pittsburgh , a nonprofit toy drive. She also is the founder and director of Know Running , an after school running program in the Fox Chapel school district, and is on the board of the Hartwood PTO.
Heather was selected as one of Pittsburgh Magazine’s 40 Under 40 in 2009 and honored as of 14 “Women in Media” by the Women & Girls Foundation in 2010. In her free time Heather is an avid runner. Heather lives in Indiana Township with her husband Mike and “the bits”.
